iPhone/iPad - Passepartout (OpenVPN)


Here you can find setup information for your chosen VPN and also how to fix any problems you might encounter.

You can use the Table of Contents on the right hand side of this window to navigate between the different sections.

You must have a Residential VPN account to use this service.


Install Guide


Step 1

  • Go to App Store
  • Search for Passepartout, VPN Client
  • Tap Get to install the App
  • There is also a direct link to the Passepartout VPN App below:





Step 2

  • Tap Install




Step 3

  • From the 'My Services' section of the Client Area, link below
  • Retrieve your VPN username & VPN password
  • Tap Download OpenVPN Configuration Files

Step 4

  • Tap Download




Step 5

  • Access your Downloads
  • Tap blue circle with an arrow in the address bar

  • A new menu will open
  • Tap Downloads

  • Your Downloads will be shown
  • Tap Zip file you downloaded in 'Step 3'




Step 7

  • A new window will open
  • Tap (3 dots), usually top right
  • Tap List
  • Using List view, makes it easier

  • Tap the Zip file you downloaded

  • Zip file will extract
  • Tap the blue folder that is extracted

Step 10

  • You will see 6 VPN profiles, the full name may be shortened, due to screen size
  • Port 1, 2, 3 are labelled 'Performance', these are typically the fastest
  • Port 4, 5, 6 are labelled 'Fallback', these may be required from some restricted locations
  • We recommend you experiment, to see which works best for you
  • Port 1 - Performance, is a good place to start
  • Tap on a VPN profile to import that option

Step 11

  • A new window will open
  • Tap the sharing icon, usually bottom left, shown by the red circle

Step 12

  • A new menu will open
  • On the row with Airdrop, Messages, Mail
  • Scroll right and then tap on Passepartout
  • If you do not see Passepartout in the list of options, use More at the end

Step 13

  • The file will then be sent to Passepartout and the App will open
  • Tap Allow
  • This screen will only appear, if this is your first install

Step 14

  • The VPN profile you imported, will then show under My Profiles
  • Tap the text of this new option you added
  • VPN will then attempt to connect

Step 15

  • The first time you connect, you will be prompted for a VPN credentials
  • Enter your VPN Username
  • Enter your VPN Password
  • Tap Connect top right

Fixing Problems

Auth Failed


This usually means you have a mistake in the VPN username or the VPN Password.

Step 1

  • From the 'My Services' section of the Client Area, link below
  • Retrieve your VPN username & VPN password

Step 2

  • Start the Passepartout App
  • Tap on the (3 dots, right-hand side), next to the option that fails to connect
  • Tap on Edit

  • Tap on OpenVPN text, NOT the Slider

  • Tap on Credentials

  • Enter your VPN Username
  • Enter your VPN Password
  • Tap on < OpenVPN top left

  • Tap on < Profile top left

  • This is important otherwise your changes will not be saved!

Cannot connect VPN from Settings

When using Passepartout, you must only use the Passepartout App to connect and disconnect the VPN.

It is not possible to connect/disconnect the VPN from the main iOS VPN Settings
